Barcelona and Mallorca have reached an agreement for the permanent transfer of Jan Virgili. Barcelona will retain 50 percent of the winger’s rights. Virgili has traveled to Palma and will undergo his medical on Thursday, August 28, before signing a five year contract that includes a buy back option. The fee is set in the low millions.
Barcelona’s sporting leadership met twice in the city with Mallorca representatives to close the operation. According to reports coming out of Spain, the deal is complete and only pending the medical, with the final approval arriving after a second meeting in Barcelona on Wednesday night. Barcelona had already extended Virgili’s contract to 2027 via two optional years earlier this summer.
According to SPORT, the agreement values the transfer at around 3.5 million euros, with Barcelona keeping 50 percent and a buy back included. The player was seen at Josep Tarradellas Barcelona El Prat Airport as he prepared to fly to Palma. The structure mirrors Pablo Torre’s move to Mallorca, with Mallorca purchasing half of the player’s rights and Barcelona retaining the other half.
This is a classic Barça academy sale that protects upside. Keeping 50 percent of the rights, along with a buy back, gives Barcelona meaningful control over Virgili’s future while allowing him to make the jump to regular top flight minutes. For Mallorca, Jagoba Arrasate gets a profile he has been seeking for the wing, and the squad adds competition in an area of need ahead of a demanding league schedule.
