Barça Atlètic were narrowly beaten by Flamengo in the Intercontinental Cup at the Maracanã, drawing 2–2 before losing 6–5 on penalties. Álvaro Cortés made it 1–2 in the 95’, but Iago levelled in the 97’ to force the penalty shootout.
Match Summary
Juliano Belletti’s team, made up of players from Barça Atlètic and Juvenil A, started on the front foot but went behind early. Lorran put Flamengo ahead after a sequence in which Matheus Gonçalves collided with goalkeeper Eder Aller before the rebound fell for the finish.
Barça Atlètic equalised in the 71st minute through Jan Virgili, who had already struck the post before the break. Belletti’s side kept creating: Brian Fariñas and Shane Kluivert each had chances, while Aller denied Joshua in a crucial one-on-one.
In the 95th minute, Álvaro Cortés seemed to have won it with a header from a Parriego corner. But Colombian referee Jhon Ospina extended play beyond the initial four minutes of stoppage time, and in the 97th minute Iago scored with a header from a long ball to make it 2–2.
Penalty Drama
Flamengo prevailed 6–5. Leo Nannetti saved penalties from Juan Hernández and Parriego, while Aller stopped Matheus once; it wasn’t enough for Barça.
Post-Match Reactions
