Barcelona remain interested in Julián Álvarez and have kept their offer on the table, but Atlético Madrid has firmly rejected any talks with Barça, accusing the club of failing to approach them professionally and respectfully.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta has explained the club’s pursuit of Álvarez, insisting that Barça acted appropriately throughout the process.
Laporta revealed that Barcelona made a formal offer directly to Atlético and that he personally spoke with Miguel Ángel Gil Marín. According to Laporta, Atlético initially made it clear that Álvarez was not for sale because they had no replacement.
Barcelona therefore agreed to leave the matter until later in the transfer window. However, after receiving information that Atlético were negotiating with other clubs over Álvarez, Barça decided to keep their offer active.
Laporta also claimed that Álvarez wants to join Barcelona and said the club’s proposal will remain valid until the end of the transfer window if Atlético change their position.
Atlético Madrid have responded firmly. The club’s board unanimously backed the decision not to negotiate with Barcelona, stating that Barça failed to meet the standards required for professional, ethical and respectful negotiations.
Atlético have made their position clear that there will be no negotiation and zero consideration of Álvarez’s transfer to Barcelona.
The two clubs are therefore presenting very different versions of the events, leaving Álvarez’s potential move to Camp Nou looking increasingly unlikely.
