Barcelona have confirmed that Fermín López has a muscle injury in his left iliopsoas. The club say he will be out for around three weeks after getting hurt at the end of the 3-0 win over Getafe.

López came on in the second half and felt pain in the final seconds. He was treated on the pitch, then left in clear discomfort. According to Mundo Deportivo, Dr. Ricard Pruna carried out the first examination before Monday’s tests at the Ciutat Esportiva. The pain was in the groin area of his left leg.

Matches he is set to miss

Given the three week timeframe, the schedule points to four likely absences. He should miss Oviedo, Real Sociedad, Paris Saint Germain on October 1, and Sevilla.

International break

López will not join Spain during the October break. Spain face Georgia on October 11 and Bulgaria on October 14. Those dates fall inside his recovery period.

Possible return date

Reports coming out of Spain suggest a target return after the break. He could be ready for Girona on October 18 if there are no setbacks.
