Barcelona Femení have finally confirmed the signing of 18 year old Dutch youth international, Liv Pennock from Eredivisie side, FC Twente.

Despite only making her senior debut for Twente mere months ago, nine appearances in, Pennock holds a goal and an assist to her name; an instant impact on her debut seeing her net her first goal in just 17 minutes . This feat, though, is merely a glimpse into the greatness the young right winger possesses. On the international stage, Pennock has displayed the foundations of a promising future- a clear talking point being her performance for the Netherlands U-17 side during the 2025 Women’s Euros, held in the Faroe Islands. Not only did the Dutch side secure their first European title, but individual success came to Pennock, as she saw herself named in the tournament’s ideal XI. It was her goal in the semi-final against France that opened the scoreline, and her constant pressure, alongside an ability to combine strength and speed which caused trouble for the Norwegian side who ultimately fell to defeat against the Dutch in the final.

Having previous experience in athletics, as well as a fast developing career in football, Pennock’s acceleration and capability to press with offensive intention look to be standout strengths, combined with her technicality when forced into one-on-one situations. While the winger undoubtedly has a skillset that can be developed immensely, with the correct guidance, Pennock enters with the fundamentals to create impact and cause struggle for opponents.

Though the signing has been confirmed today, Pennock will remain at FC Twente until the end of the season, after which point she will arrive at Barcelona, seeing herself initially join the B team, though a progressive plan will allow for a possibility of entering first team dynamics, assuming her progression and adaptation are deemed of the required standard.

To regard Barcelona’s management of their current youth players, as well as their constant recruitment and ability to attract some of the most promising international talents, as the best in the world, would be more than fair. Not only is La Masia talent undeniable, but players brought in from varying leagues are able to grow, develop and perform in a way that allows them to become the best. Such has already proven evident through the likes of Sydney Schertenleib and Martine Fenger and now, Liv Pennock sees herself allowed the chance to etch her name alongside those who have been nurtured in an environment that allows young stars  to carve themselves into generational talents from the get go.
