Barcelona have confirmed Frenkie de Jong’s contract extension until 30 June 2029, with a €500 million release clause. He called it “a very happy day” and said he wants to stay in Barcelona as long as possible while chasing as many titles as he can.

He spoke about the constant attention around Barça but made it clear he never felt undervalued inside the club. The focus now is on performance and leadership in a busy stretch of the season.

Salary context

Reports in Spain indicate his salary now sits in a similar range to Pedri and Raphinha within a structure led by Lamine Yamal. The new agreement does not carry the deferred payments. During an interview, De Jong pushed back on rumors about his high salary from his last contract, saying he earns far less than what’s reported online, and that those inflated numbers have affected how some people view him.

Villarreal match in Miami

De Jong had also voiced doubts in August about playing the Villarreal match in Miami on 20 December. This week, he said players will play wherever they are told, even if his personal view has not changed.
