Clara Serrajordi: Carving Out a Star

Clara Serrajordi in action

Clara Serrajordi has presented herself to be a promising talent in a few appearances, sparking conversation regarding her consistent inclusion within Barcelona’s first team, and her potential to make her mark on Barcelona’s world class midfield both now, and in the future.

A Youngster With Barcelona and the National Team

At only seventeen, Serrajordi has, prior to current conversations centered on Barcelona, seen her name draw significant positive attention for her role when featuring for the Spanish U19 selection. Notably, following her impressive form during the 2024/2025 youth category’s European Championship. Spain emerged victorious, and Serrajordi shone in the emphatic 4-0 final win over France, contributing two assists and etching her name onto the scoresheet. At the conclusion of the tournament, the Catalan midfielder earned herself joint top assists, while also seeing her name included within the Best XI. The latter credit was also achieved, years before, by Aitana Bonmatí, whom Serrajordi has already had comparisons drawn to as a result of her brilliant awareness, game vision and a quiet yet commanding presence on and off of the ball.

In 2023, Serrajordi penned a contract extension, with the intention of remaining a prominent feature within Barcelona’s B team. However, the two seasons that followed saw incredible progression and growth; leading to now. That development was noticed, and has been deservedly rewarded, through inclusion in the senior squad for matchdays last season, which saw the Blaugrana club secure the Supercopa and Copa De La Reina. More significantly, her official Liga F debut occurred, with Serrajordi introduced as an 81st minute substitute, replacing Bonmatí, on Matchday 30, at home to Athletic Club.

Pere Romeu Banking on her for an Important Role

Pere Romeu further demonstrated his belief and trust in the young player by giving her an opportunity to participate in preseason. Two friendly matches played in Mexico would grant more senior experience, and from here, similarity to each of Barcelona’s starting midfield was discussed. By the commence of the current Liga F season, Serrajordi was named to the starting XI against newly promoted Alhama, whom she played the entirety of the match against, slotting into a pivot role, one of the most technically demanding positions. Despite this, there were so many positives, and she looked to be a capable player on a rotational basis, in a much needed area of the pitch.

Since the season opener, Serrajordi has been absent from training and matches, after sustaining an anterior talofibular ligament strain of her left ankle. Though as of Monday, she resumed full team training, a positive sign for the week approaching, and for those wishing to see more of the midfielder.

Serrajordi’s role as of her last appearance deemed her a reserve player involved in dynamics within the senior team. However, new reports from Maria Tikas indicate that the club intends to promote Serrajordi, securing her a first team number ahead of the transfer window’s end on Friday.

While not yet far enough into her career to be coined an established star, Serrajordi undoubtedly has the potential to begin scoping out a role amongst some of the world’s best. She already possesses the assets required to develop into one of the greats; becoming a key figure for both club and country with time and guidance. For Barcelona fans, Clara Serrajordi is a thrilling player worth watching closely.
