Barcelona are close to sending Iñaki Peña to Elche on a season-long loan. Before he leaves, the 26 year old is set to sign a new Barça contract through 2029, and the two clubs are already trading the final paperwork.
Peña is set to renew for three more seasons before heading out on loan. Barça won’t announce anything until LaLiga confirms the move helps clear space to register Wojciech Szczęsny. Sport reported that Elche can’t cover Peña’s full salary, so the clubs are working on a financial split.
From Elche’s side, the move is described as imminent and would be their tenth signing of the summer. Coach Éder Sarabia, who knows Peña from his time on Quique Setién’s staff at Barça, wants three first-team goalkeepers. Peña would join Matías Dituro and summer arrival Alejandro Iturbe.
