Joan Laporta won the most recent Barça elections and got re-elected for his now third term in charge of the Catalan club. This was his victory speech.
Words of thanks to this wonderful club that we have at Barça,” he began.
“[This is a] club where its members still vote to decide who will represent them, in this case who will be the president and the Board of Directors.”
“And I understand that the members have overwhelmingly voted for our proposal, by a very wide majority they have voted for our proposal, which was a proposal that all together we defend Barça against everything and everyone.”
“And that has been very clear, that the message we have been putting out over the course of these elections has been understood.”
“It is support for the work we have done, and therefore they have given us strength so that we continue the work already done, which means completing Spotify Camp Nou and building the new Palau.”
“It means strengthening, if anything, this first team even further, which makes us fall in love with its footballing identity, with Flick on the bench, with Deco in the offices, and with this team, and I would also like to give a big round of applause from here to the participation of players from different sporting sections, but especially those of the first team.”
“That builds the club and that makes Barça what it is, an institution, something we have been saying repeatedly throughout these elections and, frankly, today an atmosphere has been seen in which Barça is an institution, an institution that is committed, open to the world, Catalan, and that has members who take part in the life of the club.”
“And the fact that the first-team players took part today, the truth is that it made us especially happy and, as you can imagine, very pleased.”
“Look, and I will finish, I will not go on any longer, this result is conclusive, it is conclusive, and it gives us a lot of strength, so much strength that I believe it makes us unstoppable,” he continued.
“No one is going to stop us from now on, friends.”
We will keep defending Barça against everything and everyone and, what is more, I am sure that years are coming, as I have told you, that will be exciting and that will be, for Barça and for all Barça supporters, for the millions, the years of our lives,” Laporta continued, before ending off in a traditional manner:
“Thank you very much, visca el Barça and visca Catalunya!”
Joan Laporta won by a landslide victory over his opponent, Victor Font, who called him the president-elect at the halfway point of the vote count.
