Barcelona will keep Jules Koundé at the club until 2030. The French defender expressed his delight at signing the renewal, which was sealed this week and runs until June 2030.
What Koundé said
“I’m very happy to renew my contract. It was a very straightforward matter because I think the club and I shared the desire to continue. I feel very comfortable here, at the club, in the city, and with the team. That’s why it was easy.”
“Winning the league against our rivals, Espanyol, was something truly wonderful in my first season and the most important thing was in the Copa del Rey final against Real Madrid, where, in addition to it being a truly beautiful match, I managed to score that goal in the 116th minute and secure the victory for the team, which was extremely special.”
“We’re fortunate to be on a team where each season begins with the certainty that we’ll compete for every title. I think last season was very good. We fell short of winning everything, but the truth is, this year we’re aiming for more. Perhaps we’ll have an even more successful season than last year.”
Reports coming out of Spain note that Koundé feels increasingly comfortable at right-back while also seeing himself as a centre-back by trade. He set a clear competitive bar for 2025/26: winning the Champions League is the target, not an obsession. He also praised Lamine Yamal’s impact and work for the team, underscoring the balance on Barça’s right side.
Securing Koundé until 2030 gives Barcelona a foundational presence on the right side of their defense as the team returns to the revamped Camp Nou. His ability to operate both as a central defender and on the flank behind Yamal gives Hansi Flick vital flexibility without disrupting the team’s balance.
With his future now secured and his ambitions set out clearly, Barcelona head into the season with one of their most important leaders committed for the long term.
