Following an intense round of Barça elections and debates, Joan Laporta has been re-elected for his third term since 2003.

Victor Font and Joan Laporta went head-to-head in the latest round of Barça presidential elections. Laporta’s latest term started in 2021, and the president called elections on February 9, about a month in advance, with voting being cast on March 15 between 9:00 AM and 9:00 PM. Shortly after, counting of the votes was underway.

Joan Laporta has beat Victor Font to the presidential seat, as has been called at the halfway point of counting up the votes. At the 50.98% point of counting, the winner was called in Joan Laporta, with a whopping 17,038 votes (69.19% to Font’s 7,082, 28.76%), and thus returns to presidency for 2026, for another term at the helm.

The two camps had drastically different outlooks following the voting process.

Joan Laporta opened up a champagne bottle and celebrated with his team, convinced of the victory prior to the counting being done.

Laporta also celebrated with heavily criticized figure, Alejandro Echevarría outside the Spotify Camp Nou before inviting his team to Luz de Gas, as has been tradition for the Barça man over the years.

Victor Font, meanwhile, looked distraught, and an exit poll conducted by TV3 and Catalunya Radio at the polling stations gave Laporta a 66.6% count while Font only garnered 30.9%. These numbers stemmed from 5,762 enquiries.

The numbers of socios (see: club members) voting rose exponentially after the Sevilla match, as predicted on Blaugranagram’s matchday show, BG Matchday. Joan Laporta was seen celebrating with the players after their 5-2 win, while Victor Font was absent, despite both candidates having been in attendance for the match at the Spotify Camp Nou. Font, moreover, was not at the polling tables when the likes of Xavi and Aitana Bonmatí put in their votes, despite Xavi’s public stance against Joan Laporta.

The final count of election votes following the poll close at 9PM local time relayed the highest scoring voting stations as the Spotify Camp Nou, perhaps unsurprisingly so, and Girona in second. For the newly renovated stadium, the votes went up by over 9,000 between full-time and the poll close.

Throughout the debates, Laporta has dismantled some of Victor Font’s promises and highlighted the fallacy of logic in some of his proposals, while Font has highlighted Laporta’s inconsistencies in statements and actions over the years.

For the majority of Barça fans, however, their stance is clear: Laporta for a third term would provide him with the platform to keep building on top of a successful season with Hansi Flick, a youthful and exuberant squad, and a string of good results on top of financial recovery. Joan Laporta was, thus, declared the winner, with Victor Font losing for the second election in a row; the first time Font and Laporta went head-to-head, the cast also included the likes of Emili Rousaud, who pulled out before the business end of the elections came to the fore.
