USA call up Diego Kochen for U20 World Cup

Barça Atlètic goalkeeper Diego Kochen has been called up by the United States for the U20 World Cup in Chile. The tournament runs from September 27 to October 19, and the decision takes him out of club action during that time.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Kochen has been a regular in Marko Mitrovic’s recent squads. In this competition he will compete for the starting spot with Adam Beaudry of Colorado Rapids and Duran Ferree of San Diego FC.

Juliano Belletti will be without his first choice goalkeeper while the World Cup is on. The coach will turn to internal options. Eder Aller could gain minutes, while summer signing Emilio Bernad and academy keeper Max Bonfill are also in the mix. Eldar Taghizada is currently with the group but is unregistered and cannot play until January.

There is another international absence in the squad. Andrés Cuenca is the only Barcelona player called up by Spain for the tournament. La Masia players Jan Virgili (Mallorca) and Héctor Fort (on loan at Elche) were not included.
