Jesús Salvador is the goalkeeping coach of the Serbian national team, who plays Spain tonight. Before, he spent a few seasons at Al-Ittihad and 14 years in Espanyol’s youth system, where he could work closely with Barça’s goalkeeper Joan García. In a recent interview with Blaugranagram’s partner, Flashscore, Salvador spoke about his time working with Joan and the huge potential he sees in the current Barça keeper.
Looking back, Salvador explains how it all started for Joan and Espanyol: “I remember the reports when we first went to see him. We already highlighted the physique, the speed, things that we continue to see today. But once we had him close and we saw that he was a very intelligent goalkeeper, who controlled his feelings very well, he did not express any nervousness, although on the inside, he could be nervous, but you could not tell. When we already spotted these types of key factors for high performance, at the age of 17, he began to train with the first team”.
As for the amazing level shown by Joan García this season, the goalkeeping coach is certain that: “what we are seeing is the tip of a huge iceberg. He will get as high as he wants to; he has a lot of talent and a spectacular intelligence. He can keep and improve this level, without a doubt. He must continue working with that humility that he has, with ambition, and with luck with injuries, of course. With all that, we will have Joan García for many years.”
