According to Mundo Deportivo FC Barcelona will not trigger the optional two years in Ansu’s contract and will instead offer him a new and revised contract.

The Catalan club is relaxed in its attempts to renew its new number 10, whose contract is up in the summer of 2022. Following talks with the director of football Mateu Alemany, Ansu reiterated his desire to succeed at the club and fill the void left by the departure of Messi this summer. FC Barcelona will be mindful of staying within sensible parameters financially, with the ongoing financial crisis being further hampered by the pandemic, securing Ansu to a contract that will not hurt the club in the years to come is of paramount importance.

 Ansu’s X-factor

With Messi and Griezmann both departing the club in the summer for PSG and Atletico Madrid respectively, culés will look to their 18-year-old La Masia graduate to provide the quality and excitement that has come to be expected from the forward line at FC Barcelona. This expectation is echoed by the club who want to ensure that they respect the form which originally earned Ansu his place as a mainstay in the first team as well as an international call-up before his knee injury in November 2020. The reputation and respect Ansu have been able to build for himself in his very short career up until now have granted him a non-transferrable status, and despite reports being published that his agent Jorge Mendes has spoken already to several clubs including Manchester City, FC Barcelona insist that no formal talks have taken place between the clubs.

 Talks with Alemany

Ansu is in the final stages of his recovery from a knee injury that saw him sidelined for almost the entirety of the 20/21 season. It is expected that once Ansu has been given a clean bill of health by the club doctors, formal talks will begin on drafting the new contract. Despite this, MD has reported that Alemany has already been speaking to Ansu casually to hear out the young Spainards plans for the future, with their most recent conversation coming at the presentation of the new kits for the 21/22 season. The message received by Alemany from the young star was clear, “I want to stay and succeed here”. This will be of great relief to both club and culés alike and now the only obstacle that remains is translating these good terms into a functional contract.

 Talking financials

Barca believes that Anu’s camp will be mindful of the financial situation posing the club and as a result will be happy to have future remunerations come as part of the success of the club. Bori Fati, the father of Ansu has made clear his family's stance that money is not the be-all-end-all when it comes to his son. In reiterating this, he believes that once Ansu recovers from his injury and helps Barca to return to the level expected of a club its size, the young star will be paid very well as the Barca stars of old have been. As of right now, the chance to have Ansu as the crack of FC Barcelona for the next decade is a proposition that excites all parties involved.
