Joan Laporta leads discussions on the club’s conflict with Nike.

Joan Laporta chaired yesterday’s meeting of the Delegated Commission of FC Barcelona, the first since Eduard Romeu’s resignation as vice president of the club’s finances. One of the key points discussed was the status of the ongoing conflict with Nike, which has led Barça to seriously consider Puma’s offer, as well as the possibility of opting for an in-house brand for a season if they decide to part ways with Nike while waiting to sign with another company.

According to Sergi Sole of Mundo Deportivo, a definitive decision was not expected to be made, but all options remain open. Despite the urgency, top officials at the club are not concerned about the risk of running out of stock of competition apparel or merchandise for sale to the public if they ultimately break ties with Nike.

Barça is aware of the potential legal consequences of terminating the current contract with Nike until 2028, which is why they are examining all possible legal scenarios. Laporta expressed his dissatisfaction with Nike, citing reasons such as the inability to open stores abroad or sell online outside of Europe. However, while there is no final agreement yet, one is not far off. The next regular board meeting, scheduled for the end of the month, could be decisive.
