Spotify, the global streaming service, is close to sealing a sponsorship agreement with Barça, as reported by Fernardo Polo of Mundo Deportivo. Its logo would replace the Rakuten one on the shirt’s front, once the current contract with the Japanese company runs out on June 30th.

Spotify is one of the biggest and most well-known music streaming services in the world, which is based in Sweden. Todays report by Mundo Deportivo suggests that the company is currently well placed to close an agreement with the Catalan club.

Spotify is trying to accelerate the negotiations in order to finalize the deal. Barça, on the other hand, is trying to handle the whole ordeal over the shirt sponsorship with the utmost secrecy. Negotiations are set to take place between the executives of both parties in the coming days.

The battle between companies to get on the front of the Blaugrana shirt has been a matter of many reports by the Catalan media in the past months. There have been talks of another candidate, the Chinese company Tencent, which was reported by Sport. Nonetheless, the recent news coming from the clubs sources confirms that Tencent is already out of the race.

Daniel Ek, the owner of Spotify, is an Arsenal fan and he already tried to buy the London club. His approaches were rejected by Stan Kroenke, but it seems that the Swede still wants to venture into the world of football and chose FC Barcelona this time, albeit for a different goal.
