UEFA Women’s Champions League announces new anthem and logo

UEFA announced on Monday afternoon that the UEFA Women’s Champions League will have a new anthem and logo for the 2021/22 season.

The rebranding of the tournament is part of UEFA’s Time for Action strategy, a five-year plan that aims to double the number of women playing football in Europe and double the reach and value of UEFA’s women’s competitions by 2024.

“The UEFA Women’s Champions League is a competition in its own right, with its own sporting and commercial set-up, with its own uniqueness,” said Nadine Kessler, UEFA’s chief of women’s football. “People need to know the UEFA Women’s Champions League, they need to have something they can relate to and be attached to and I believe such an anthem is really important for a recognisable competition.”

The new anthem for the competition, which was developed by music agency MassiveMusic, is similar to the renowned anthem for the men’s tournament. It is sung English, French, and German — UEFA’s official languages — by the Dutch choir Groot Omroepkoor. It will be played as the players line up on the field prior to kick off.

The logo was designed by branding agency Works Ltd to represent the tournament as the premier women’s club competition.

UEFA’s marketing director, Guy-Laurent Epstein, said that the new logo and anthem will make the tournament a “more more exciting proposition for both our current and prospective partners and sponsors in the future.”

The announcement of the new branding updates comes one day after FC Barcelona Femení defeated Chelsea FC 4-0 in the 2021 UEFA Women’s Champions League Final in Gothenburg, Sweden.

Previous updates to the UEFA’s flagship women’s club competition include the addition of a 16-team group stage as well as the quadrupled increase of the monetary prize.
