FC Barcelona vs Bayern Munich: Revenge?

The numbers 2 and 8 took a step further in their quest for worldwide relevance when these 2 sides last met in the year of the pandemic. For the average Barça fan, those are memories they would rather leave in the past. Bayern Munich are in town and they are overwhelming favorites to decimate Barcelona.

The last time these teams met, it set in motion a sequence of events that truly did destabilize the Catalan club. I hate to remember those days. That is a bad pun. This is a preview, not a Satire. Many fans have already accepted a defeat even before the game has been played, that will never stop being a mystery to Me. We have so much going against us; no Messi, the team looks slightly unbalanced, we have 4 forwards injured. I get that these things don’t point to any reason for confidence. But I can’t bring myself to not have expectations of my team.

I am incapable of fearing our opponents; I can respect their strengths and abilities, but I will never be in trepidation. Because I will never allow my brain contemplate my team being Underdogs. We are Barça. We play at the Camp Nou and I will be confident, regardless of who we play. Get the tactics right and we will defeat this Bayern team. Set the team up to play in quick transitions and not just to contain Bayern’s never ending attacks, we should set out to attack too.

I hope to see Yusuf Demir starting, along with Memphis Depay on the opposite flank, with Luuk De Jong in the middle if we go for a 4-3-3, and I think we will. Pedri, De Jong and Busquets will be the midfielders. And the back 4 would most likely be Alba, Pique, Araujo and Mingueza. Ter Stegen will start in goal. That’s a blend of youth and experience. Hopefully the players raise their performance levels and have what is described on Twitter as a “Legacy game”.

Bayern Munich will attempt to suffocate us with a high press and stop our midfielders from being comfortable and getting into a groove. Leon Goretzka and Joshua Kimmich will be tirelessly running and attempting to cover every blade of grass at the Camp Nou on Tuesday night. It will be a great game that’s for sure. Let’s hope the game turns out better than many people expect. Might be tight, and FC Barcelona just might edge it.
