Weronika Araśniewicz: Barça Femení have eyes on another Polish youngster

Amid reports of Robert Lewandowski’s ballooning salary for the men’s team, and Ewa Pajor on the move to the femení for a large sum, the women’s B team – who recently won the second division for the second consecutive season – have their eyes on another Polish player, Weronika Araśniewicz, who could join compatriot Emilia Szymczak in their ranks.

Araśniewicz is a 16-year-old midfielder at Warsaw Diamonds (Diamenty Warszawa), a women’s team that has been around for about two years. Last autumn, Barcelona scouts watched the team play and invited Araśniewicz to trial at La Masia.

She is a fan of both Lewandowski and Barcelona, and got to watch them in action on her trip to Catalunya. As well as joining training with Barça Femení B, of course – reports from Poland are her trial was successful and she could have been brought in to the women’s development structure in January.

The league season for Warsaw Diamonds is different to Spain, though, with the club just entering pre-season again this spring. We don’t know whether the off-season timing of a possible January move affected Araśniewicz coming to Barcelona, or if it was just put to one side while the section dealt with the departure of Jona Giráldez and the incorporation of Marc Vivés. It was a busy month for the sporting direction!

But Araśniewicz is currently starring for Poland at the Under 17 Women’s Euros, and her name is back in connection with Barcelona.

An attacking midfield profile, with the potential of Giulia Dragoni heading to Roma on loan, bringing in Araśniewicz to develop at Barça Femení would also help fill that spot in the B team.
