Ronald Araujo officially signed his contract extension on Friday afternoon at the Camp Nou. He made it clear that he always wanted to stay in Barcelona.

FC Barcelona announced on Thursday that Ronald Araujo had agreed to a contract that will link him to the club until June 2026.

On Friday the Uruguayan was accompanied by president Joan Laporta and officially signed the new contract. Araujo was visibly emotional as he spoke to the small crowd present at the Camp Nou.

“I’m happy here. It’s the best club in the club, Araujo said. “I’m happy with the support of everyone. Especially the technical staff. With getting into this style of playing, which was difficult for me at first. I’m happy to be at the best club in the world.”

Prior to the announcement there were rumours of the negotiations between the player and the club stalling. But Araujo made it clear that he never considered leaving Barcelona.

“I was always certain that i was going to stay here. The only missing piece was the announcement. I believe in the project and I’m certain that we’ll get back to winning titles.”

President Joan Laporta also thanked the player for his commitment to the club.

“I want to thank Ronald Araujo. He’s a player both for the present and the future, he said. “He brings character and he’s won the everyone over with his heart and personality. He’s the type of player we’d like to have at Barcelona”

“We’re aiming high. Araujo is a part of the up and coming generation with Nico, Gavi, Ansu Fati. Ferran Ferran Torres. We’re waiting for good news on Gavi. We’re working on it.”

“They’re all players with character and personality. I’m proud to be the president of Barça in times like this.”
