After managing just a draw against Levante, president Joan Laporta now wants explanations from Ronald Koeman about what has led to Barcelona’s recent run of poor results.

Barcelona’s title charge came to a standstill on Tuesday night, when the team managed just a draw away at Levante. The team now has just one 3-pointer in the last four, and should Atletico Madrid beat Real Sociedad on Wednesday night, the Catalans will be five points away from top spot. With just two games remaining, that gap would be almost impossible to close down.

Mundo Deportivo are reporting that Joan Laporta wants a face-to-face talk with coach Ronald Koeman, to get a status-update on him and the team. Laporta wants the head coach to analyse the latest run of poor results. After all the optimism that came out of the Copa del Rey victory last month, what has led to the team only managing one win in the last four games?

Laporta wants clarity from Koeman about what has gone wrong at the business end of the season, and why the team has failed to deliver in key moments. Against Granada and yesterday against Levante, Barcelona ended up dropping points after going ahead early in the game.

The President also wants to know how Koeman himself is feeling and if he feels supported by the team. In yesterday’s post-match press conference, Koeman put out a concerning quote: “I ask myself what have we done at halftime because we talked about improving things defensively and maintaining intensity, and we didn’t do that”. The board will be asking if Koeman is getting the team to do what he wants.

MD’s club sources also say that the meeting will not decide Ronald Koeman’s future at the club. It’s simply to get a first-hand update. Joan Laporta has on multiple occasions uttered his support for Koeman. He just wants to gather information, then at the end of the season him and the rest of the board will make a decision of who’s the right man to coach the team.
