Ronald Koeman: “we have to try to win every game”

The first five matches of LaLiga have passed and FC Barcelona seems more dysfunctional than ever. Today, after tying for the third time this season, Ronald Koeman, Gerard Piqué and Sergi Roberto spoke with the press.

As every single year, FC Barcelona as an institution aspired to win every single tournament that they participate in. However, after the last couple of matches, the club must face a harsh truth, the team has taken a turn for the worst. According to Sique Rodríguez Ronald Koeman will continue as manager and that the club is currently asking for patience. However, it is a possibility that the former Dutch international will not be leading this team by the end of the season.

Here is what Koeman had to say after today’s match:

His analysis of the the game

“The positive thing is the attitude of the players because that is the most important thing for a manager. The team has shown a lot of attitude to win even when we were one less. We have struggled to get a good result, we have lost some creativity at the front but still we have had several occasions.”

On his red card

“It was for telling the fourth referee that there was a second ball on the field and that the match had to be stoped, everyone except the referee saw it. They send you off because anything, in this country they show you the red card for nothing. I have asked the referee as any normal person.”

Regarding his aspirations of the season

“I have already said several times that we have to try to win every game, that we always have to try to win titles. But you have to be realistic. You have to see the squad we have, the people we lack. And I have also said that if we have all the players available … But we have seven missing.”

Gerard Piqué, the veteran defender used the opportunity to express his discomfort. Here is what he said:

On the current situation of the team

“We have four injured players in the attack and we do what we can with what we have. But I also said that we would fight for titles. And I am convinced that we will be compete. The team has courage and desire. And the fans are with us. I am here to win, not to be second or third. We will compete until the end, but on Sunday we need the fans.”

“We are going though a process that we are not used to. There have been changes of managers and presidents, but we have to be calm. We can complain or work together in our favor. We are focused on winning.”

Regarding their tight schedule

“What I don’t understand is how they give us a calendar like the one we have. Why do they schedule matches on Monday if we play again on Thursday? Can’t the people of LaLiga see this? I do not understand. They could easily program a match on the weekend but they do it on Monday, then we play again on a Thursday and then on Sunday at 4:00 p.m. to play again on Wednesday in the Champions League.”

Finally, the third captain of the team, Sergi Roberto also spoke with the press:

On the match

“Unfortunately we have been with one less player after Frenkie’s red card. We have had a clear chance to get ahead and win the game, but we got the draw. We have to start winning. Madrid is seven points clear from us. I am sure that the team will succeed.”

What does the team aspire to achieve

“We have to win LaLiga. It is not acceptable to just be in the top four. We are Barça and we have a very good team. We can compete for the league. I am happy with myself. I want to give everything for this team. We have to be more united than ever.”
