Amidst rumors linking Girona captain Aleix Garcia to a move away from the Montilivi, the club president revealed his stance to Catalunya Radio.

Girona’s main man and captain, the 20-year-old Aleix Garcia, has had a breakout season in 2023. With the departure of Oriol Romeu and his homecoming to FC Barcelona, Garcia has further accentuated his presence for the red-white outfit in Catalonia.

Given his recent performances, and perhaps rather naturally, he has been linked to a move away from the Montilivi to the other side of Catalonia; the Montjuïc where Barcelona ply their trade this season during the Spotify Camp Nou renovations.

The player is supposedly on Barcelona’s radar, even though he recently said he was unaware of the legitimacy of the rumors linking him to a move away.

Aleix Garcia “doesn’t know” whether the rumors are true, he tells Girona fan during shirt signing.

Now, in an attempt to downplay the rumors and provide more clarity to Girona fans, the club’s president Delfí Geli has conducted an interview with Radio Catalunya, which will be released this Saturday at 5pm CET.

“Overall, all the players we have [in our roster], are players we’d like to see continue with us,” he tells Radio Catalunya’s show Tot Gira, according to Mundo Deportivo who have received a pre-release version of the interview.

“We have no indication of things going differently [from the plan of keeping the players at Girona]. In the transfer market a lot of things can be said, but we don’t want to see any player leave,” Geli continues.

It is worth noting that this interview is released after Girona on Friday let go of 32-year-old Bernardo Espinosa mid-season after a mutual agreement was reached between player and club, despite his contract originally running out in the summer.

When it comes to Aleix Garcia, Geli has no doubts: “At the end of the day, there’s only clause that allows a player to leave [the release clause reported at 20 million euros]. With Aleix, no matter what’s being said [in the media], he’s completely involved in [our objectives for] this season and our project. He’s happy [here] will continue if nothing new happens [in terms of formal offers or release clause triggers],” Geli confirms on Tot Gira.

Aleix Garcia joined Girona from Eibar for free back in 2021 and his current contract runs until 2026 with an option to extend for an additional year.
