Joao Cancelo wants to continue at FC Barcelona next season. According to Joan Poqui of Mundo Deportivo, the Portuguese full-back is currently on loan without a purchase option until the end of the season from Manchester City, but there is a willingness at the Blaugrana club to have him beyond June 30, and Cancelo himself also expressed the same sentiment during the presentation of Ronald Araujo’s documentary.
When asked if he hopes to stay at Barcelona next year, Cancelo did not hesitate to respond with a quick “yes, yes” before leaving the ‘photocall’ area of the event, making it clear that his desire is to wear the Blaugrana jersey for many more years. As reported in MD, Barcelona president Joan Laporta and agent Jorge Mendes, who handles the affairs of Cancelo and Joao Félix, met in Barcelona to discuss the future of both players and agreed that the most viable solution for them to continue at Barça is another loan, although they do not rule out a possible signing depending on the situation with financial fair play.
In his first season at Barcelona, Joao Cancelo has already played 30 matches across all competitions and has scored three goals and provided four assists. He arrived to play as a right-back, but injuries to Balde and Marcos Alonso have forced him to play on the left wing, where he has performed well.
