FC Barcelona has reportedly got into contact with Pedri and Ansu Fati about renewing their contracts, which end in 2022.

According to Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo, Barça got into contact with representatives of the players to ensure their continuity at the club.

Pedri González (18) was signed in September 2019, but immediately loaned back out to UD Las Palmas for the remainder of the season. Last year, he had a spectacular breakthrough season in La Liga, playing almost every single minute possible, scoring three goals and providing three assists. The youngster also represented Spain on youth level, at the Euro 2020 tournament and at the Olympic Games. His contract ends in 2022 and has an option for two extra years, but Barça feels like his above-expected achievements have earned him a new contract.

Ansu Fati (18) had a similarly great breakthrough after he made his debut as a 16-year-old and also has a contract up until 2022 with the option for two extra years, but there seems to be a bit of an issue with his agent Jorge Mendes. The player’s representatives reportedly believe that the two extra years might not be valid, as Ansu signed that contract when he was still a minor. Fati was recently given the iconic number 10 shirt, making him the first player after Leo Messi to play with that number on his back.

The club is trying to solve all these small issues as soon as possible, to make sure the two young stars can play an important role in Barça’s future. It has also been reported that there will be a meeting between some important representatives of the club and Ronald Koeman every two weeks, to discuss the situation of the team.
