García Pimienta has reportedly been dismissed from his role as FC Barcelona B manager today, in what comes as a bombshell to most people following Barça B. According to Mundo Deportivo’s Ferran Martinez, this is part of a complete remodeling of grassroots football in the club. The futures of other leading figures in the La Masia system are also under the magnifying glass per the same report.

After 19 years serving the club, starting at Cadet A in 2001, all the way through to managing Barça B for the last 3 seasons, García Pimienta was summoned to the Sports Centre today by club VP Rafa Yuste and grassroots football CEO Alexanco this morning. Pimienta was thanked for his diligence and professionalism in his work over the years, and was relieved of his duties. The contract was terminated without much argument from either party. Sergi Barjuan, historic left back for Barça, is being touted as the number one candidate to replace Pimienta at the helm, according to Mundo Deportivo.

However, Pimienta was not the only name on the chopping board this morning. Álex García was informed that he will not continue to lead the club’s observer department. As for leaders of grassroots football, Aureli Altimira will also be dismissed. The future of Jordi Roura, former assistant manager to Tito Vilanova in the 2012/13 season and currently a part of La Masia’s sports structure, is also being talked about. But, according to Ferran Martinez, everything indicates that Roura will be dismissed as well.
