Barcelona’s head coach, Xavi, breaks the silence on Ansu Fati’s situation in Barcelona, stating he ‘more than anyone wants to see Ansu succeed’.

In recent days, life has been quite hectic for Barcelona starlet Ansu Fati.

His father, Bori, had an interview with Spanish news outlet COPE, in which he, at length, discussed his son’s situation at the club. Ansu’s minutes this season have been limited, with the Spain international having recently returned from a lengthy injury break that sidelined him for most of the previous campaign.

Reportedly, the youngster was dissatisfied with his father’s approach, and is determined to stay at Barcelona and prove his worth. He is a La Masía graduate and has shown plenty of promise since his promotion back in 2020, but injuries have haunted him for some time.

Xavi has now broken the silence and speculation that filled the air after Bori Fati’s interview.

“Ansu is calm and focused. Only he matters to me, not his father nor his entourage. I’ve also lived through similar situations. He [Bori] is suffering because of [the situation of] his son, and I understand that,” Xavi said at the presser today ahead of Barcelona’s upcoming clash with Elche.

Xavi also sang Ansu’s praises, especially given the forward’s situation.

“He is a great person and knows what he says. I see him train and he’s doing very well. I have complete confidence and faith in Ansu,” Xavi explained.

“I’ve had a lot of talks with him, and we’ve met a lot, as is the case with a lot of other footballers. I more than anyone want to see him succeed,” Xavi added.

So far, this season, Ansu has featured in 926 league minutes across 24 matches. He has scored three goals and set up another three in the process.

Ansu’s current contract runs out in 2027, although there is an option for an additional two-year renewal.
